Jackie Brookner
Senior
Designer
Ecological artist and designer Jackie Brookner has been working
collaboratively with ecologists, landscape architects, policy makers,
city governments and grassroots community groups on water remediation/public
space projects in the U.S. and abroad for over ten years.
Brookner's whole systems approach identifies nodal points where
social, cultural, and ecological revitalization meet. Her Biosculptures™,
vegetated water filtration systems, in the US and Germany, reclaim
stormwater and other polluted waters to create lush environments,
restored habitat, and expressive, multifunctional public spaces.
In her planning work with the National Park Service in the Pacific
Northwest, and as a consultant in CA, PA and Germany she takes an
intensive approach to community process and participation that goes
beyond consensus to activating collective revisioning and maximum
potential. Her work fosters sustainable watershed practices through
environmental education, community empowerment, and ecological restoration.
Brookner received her BA from Wellesley College, her MA and ABD
from Harvard University. She lectures internationally, and has taught
at the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard Univ. and Parsons School
of Design, where she currently teaches. See JackieBrookner.net
