Stanfordville

Constructed Wetland
Private Residence in Stanfordville, New York

Project Summary:
eDesign Dynamics (EDD) is assisting Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates with designing and constructing a cattail marsh at a private residence in Stanfordville, New York. The upstream portion of the wetland site is dominated by wetland hydrology and plants. The lower portion of the site consists of a mowed upland with a drainage channel that serves as a conduit between the wetland zone on the upper portion of the site and the adjacent stream that borders the site.

For the proposed design, EDD determined the feasibility for a cattail marsh. The proposed design will include multiple, flat zones to create a free-water regime throughout to support robust cattail growth. The construction will primarily consist of stripping and storing existing cattail rhizomes, excavating and removing existing topsoil with weedy seed stock, grading planting zones, construction of berms and weirs to control water flow, spreading of cattail rhizomes, and additional cattail plantings.
